雅思写作里别再用for example了！教你一招

有人肯定会说，举例子嘛!写“for example”不就完事了?

NO!NO!NO!举例作为同学们最喜欢拿来拓展作文的手段之一，可以说在作文中会出现多次，如果大家没有有意识地升级自己的举例表达，那拿到7分的可能性真的就会降低!

我们来复习一下雅思写作评分标准中7分段对承接手段的描述：

uses a range of cohesive devices appropriately although there may be some under-/over-use

其中“range”指的是多样性，正是6分段考生没有的特质之一。很多6分考生可能会写下面这样的句子：

For example, the climate is changing rapidly.

没有什么大问题，但也只能仅限于此。为了实现这个7分，小编今天就教给大家升级表达的招数!准备接招!

一.作插入语

最简单的方法，其实就是将“for example”进行移位，将其从大家惯用的句首位置移到句中。比如：

Young people begin smoking for a variety of reasons. For example, they may be influenced by …

就可以改为：

Young people begin smoking for a variety of reasons. They may, for example, be influenced by …

样整个句子就会显得更有新意一些，如果同学们想在这个基础上运用它的变式，可以把“example”单独摘出来使用

二.单独使用“example”

“Example”单独使用时可以有下面这些用法：

■ A/An/One example of X is(that)...■ This offers a typical example of…. ■ ... is an example(of)...■ ... is the most obvious example.■ take ... for example.

■ By way of example,...

例如：

Climate is changing at an alarming rate. The melting of the polar ice caps is an obvious example of this.

这样的好处就是example可以出现在句子中的任何地方，同学们使用时就可以更加灵活

~不过如果一篇文章中出现太多次“example”肯定也不行，下面来看看有哪些同义替换也可以用来举例子的!

三.同义词/近义词替换

For instance

这个词组和“for example”基本可以完全替代，举个例子：

Murder, petty theft and tax evasion, for instance, all have different motives and consequences.

Such as

Such as一般适用于后面的例子较短，多是同类词语的情况，比如：

Young people begin smoking for a variety of reasons, such as pressure from peers or curiosity.

Case

Case也可以在多种情况下运用，比如：

■ ..., this case has shown that …

■ ..., the case reported here illustrates the …

■ As a case in point, …

■ There are some cases of...

There have been some cases of women employees being fired because they are pregnant.

Illustrate / illustration

这个词本来在雅思小作文中很常见，作“表现”的意思，摆在这里也有“举例论证”的意思，用法主要是：

■ To illustrate,...

■ One illustration is...

■ To illustrate my point,...

■ take... as an illustration

■ ... is frequently quoted/cited/taken as an illustration of ...

Children often learn behaviour from the adults around them subconsciously. To illustrate, children who are brought up by aggressive parents often use aggression to solve their own problems later in life.

Namely

这个词可能很多同学都不熟悉，其实也可以用来介绍文章中前段的论点，提供更准确、详细的信息。比如：

Minor crimes should not have the same penalty as major crimes, namely murder.

Evidence

同学们常用的“evidence”主要是它的名词形式，当用作动词时是“作...的证据”，也可以当做“for example”的同义替换进行具体的说明，给大家看个例子：

However, seat belts also involve a degree of inconvenience, as evidenced by the unwillingness of many people to use them.

Proof of

先直接给同学们看例句：

Art is living proof of history, so we must preserve it.

这里的意思是“art”也是“history”的一种，相当于用比较隐藏的手法举了一个例子，同学们也可以学习一下~
