We all have preferences when it comes to certain aromas. Choosing a perfume that suits you is not as easy as you think. Actually, with many of us, scents become a part of our identity that cannot be replaced.

在这段话题，我们先来关注两个主要单词：aroma & scent (香气)

这两个单词应该也是这个part 1话题中我们需要去掌握的两个核心单词。

  Aroma  等同于fragrance，表示香味，既可以是闻到的香味，也可以是品尝到的香味。

Lavender has a delicate aroma/fragrance.熏衣草有一种淡淡的香味。

  scent  表示某物散发出的、通常是使人愉快的气味。

Fresh roses have deep scent.新鲜的玫瑰会散发出浓郁的香味。

除了这两个单词以外，再看一下这句话：“With many of us, scents become a part of our identity that cannot be replaced. ”对于很多人而言，香味是身份的一部分，无可替代。

为此当考官问你：“What does perfume mean to you?”

你可以这么回答:I think perfume is a part of you. Everybody has their own special scent. When I smell a certain perfume, it can remind me of someone I know.

接着我们再来看一下文中为我们提供的五种香味，从而我们也可以学习一下如何来表达自己喜欢的那些个香水味。

01、Oriental scents 东方香调

 These perfumes are a mix of musk (麝香), amber (琥珀), Oud ([uːd] 沉香) and cinnamon ([‘sɪnəmən] 肉桂). They are heavy, strong and rich that suit mysterious women. These perfumes are a symbol of power, elegance, and luxury, thus they are usually worn at night and never worn daily at work or school or with a casual modern outfit.

这段话里我们可以提取出来这么三个形容词：heavy, strong, rich

 虽然看似简单，但却是我们在表达香气浓郁时很需要的几个形容词。对淡淡的香味，我们就可以用“subtle”这个单词。

PS: Subtle [‘sʌt(ə)l] 这个单词中“b”不发音。

02、Woody and earthy scents

 These warm and intimate perfumes should be definitely the first choice of serious and classy women.

 They are a mix of sandalwood ([‘sænd(ə)lwʊd] 檀香) and spices (香料), and this gives them the warmth.

 They should be worn during winter because of their warmth. 不同的香味给人不一样的感受，在这段话里很值得我们提炼的观点就是“Give sb the warmth”。

 为此当你被问到“What kind of perfume do you like”或者“Would you send perfume to your friends”的时候都可以用到这个观点。

- Would you send perfume to your friends?

 - Yes. I always choose those warm and intimate perfumes to my friends and I hope those special scent can give them the warmth.

03、Sweet sugary aromas

 They are similar to the smell of sweet food such as fruits, caramel ([‘kærəm(ə)l] 焦糖味) or candy.

 They are suitable for daily activities and can be worn at work or school.

这一种香味应该就是年轻女性的专属了，我想很多女生应该都会有这么一款糖果味的香水给自己带来快乐。

I am into sweet sugary aromas since they add a touch of (有一点) happiness and vitality ([vaɪ’tælɪtɪ] 活力).

04、Floral perfumes

 Probably the most popular scent option, floral perfumes contain the scent of either one flower (rose, gardenia ([gɑː’diːnɪə] 栀子花), lavender) or a bouquet of ([bʊ’keɪ] 一束) several varieties. Floral scents are feminine ([‘femɪnɪn] 女性的) and romantic.这种香味让我想起了Chanel的chance系列。
