The origins of theater

In seeking to describe the origins of theater, one must rely primarily on speculation, since there is little concrete evidence on which to draw. The most widely accepted theory, championed by anthropologists in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, envisions theater as emerging out of myth and ritual.

The most widely accepted theory,就要注意了,戏正式来了,小本本记上,个起源是emerging out of myth and ritual。

Stories (myths) may then grow up around a ritual.

这一段,看到了grow up around a ritual,小本本再记上,体会  emerge out of ; grow up

Although origin in ritual has long been the most popular, it is by no means the only theory about how the theater came into being.  Storytelling has been proposed as one alternative.  A closely related theory sees theater as evolving out of dances that are primarily pantomimic, rhythmical or gymnastic, or from imitations of animal noises and sounds.

这一段开头看到了很明显的关系词Although,这句话说,嗯,这不是的,体会come into being, 后面又接着介绍了两个,been proposed as one alternative和evolving out of dances,体会 be propose as; evolving out of

In addition to exploring the possible antecedents of theater, scholars have also theorized about the motives that led people to develop theater. Why did theater develop, and why was it valued after it ceased to fulfill the function of ritual? Most answers fall back on the theories about the human mind and basic human needs. One, blabla. Another, blabla

这一段开头,in addition to ,然后发现,嗯,这一段开始讲另一件事情了,是motives,小本本要另起一段了,看到了后面的human mind and basic human needs. One, blabla. Another, blabla

But neither the human imitative instinct nor a penchant for fantasy by itself leads to an autonomous theater. Therefore, additional explanations are needed. One necessary condition seems to be a somewhat detached view of human problems. Another condition that contributes to the development of autonomous theater is the emergence of the aesthetic sense.

这一段开头 but neither a nor b,blabla, 这段话在说,Therefore, additional explanations are needed. 结构已经非常明显了,motives还有其他的两个,detached view of human problems和the emergence of the aesthetic sense。
