SAT文法however的正确用法讲解

首先，我们要清楚however的词性是副词adverb和连词conjunction，譬如：

This is a cheap and simple process. However, there are dangers.

i.副词用法

ii.意思是used when you are adding a fact or piece of information that seems surprising, or seems very different from what you have just said

i.连词用法，引导从句，相当于no matter how

ii.意思是in whatever way

而SAT文法中会考察的就是however作为副词，表示两个句子之间的逻辑过渡，比如：

At the onset, Fleur wanted to utilize the app to improve the efficiency of her daily tasks. In particular, she wanted to simplify how she responded to unexpected schedule changes during the conference.

A. NO CHANGE

B. Nevertheless,

C. However,

D.Similarly,

做这样的题的时候是有小技巧的，即先排除逻辑一样的选项，通常出现的两对就是thus和therefore/as a result以及however和nevertheless/nonetheless，所以排除答案B和C。

接着，要看前后句子的意思，并且还要知道剩下两个选项各自的用法，similarly是用在有共性的两个句子之间，比如The cost of food and clothing has come down in recent years. Similarly, fuel prices have fallen quite considerably. 而in particular是用来引出一个具体的信息。这道题的前后句是general（提高工作效率）-specific（如何应对unexpected schedules情况）的关系，所以答案就是A啦。

但是！但是！但是！有一个例外！这个例外就是OG2-25，请看题：

With sea otters to keep the population of sea urchins in check, kelp forests can flourish. In fact, even two years or less of sea otter presence can reduce the sea urchin threat in a coastal area. Without sea otters present, nevertheless, kelp forests run the danger of becoming barren stretches of coastal wasteland known as urchin barrens.

按照前面讲的技巧，排除A和B就会发现没有正确答案，so，这个题的答案在A和B之间二选一。那么，也就是说，however和nevertheless其实是有差别的！

however前后的信息有个关键的地方就是different，而nevertheless的定义是这样的：in spite of a fact that you have just mentioned，是没有对比关系的。所以这道题目的答案就是B-however啦，因为前句是with sea otters to…而后句是without sea otters present。

除此之外，我们还要注意两点：1，however的位置非常灵活，可以在句子前、中、后；2，however还可以表示段落之间的过渡。
